The Giacomo Leopardi School of Advanced Studies complements and enriches the degree syllabuses offered by the University of Macerata
While remaining distinct from the University curriculum, the School provides a comprehensive educational experience through a variety of offerings:
- Regular Seminars: These seminars delve deeper into specific topics related to your chosen field of study.
- Extracurricular Seminars: Expand your horizons and develop new skills through a variety of extracurricular seminars and workshops.
- Foreign Language Courses and Certifications: The School offers opportunities to improve your foreign language proficiency and earn internationally recognized certifications (FCE and CAE).
- IT Certifications: Pursue industry-standard IT certifications (ECDL) to enhance your employability.
- International Mobility Syllabuses: Gain valuable international experience through study abroad or research collaborations.
Every year, the School’s Board of Directors and Scientific Committee collaborate to identify a central theme that is then woven throughout the educational offerings. This thematic approach encourages interdisciplinary learning and exploration of complex issues from diverse perspectives.
The School is divided into two Classes:
CLASS OF HUMANISTIC SCIENCES
For students who choose degree programs in the Departments of:
- Humanities, Languages, Mediation, History, Literature, Philosophy
- Education, Cultural Heritage and Tourism
CLASS OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
For students who choose degree programs in the Departments of:
- Law
- Economics and Law
- Political Science, Communication and International Relations
Coursework and Seminars
Students are required to complete at least 70 hours of core coursework offered by the School each year. These in-depth studies equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle complex issues through an interdisciplinary lens.
The School also leverages its network of partner Schools of Advanced Studies to offer an expanded range of courses, further enriching the academic experience.
Participation
A limited number of external participants (auditors) are welcome to attend the School’s regular seminars. Upon request, auditors can receive a certificate of attendance. To register for specific seminars, please complete the designated application form and submit it either in person to the School Secretariat or electronically to: scuolastudisuperiori@unimc.it.

Language and IT Certification Opportunities
In addition to the core curriculum, the School offers the following opportunities for language and IT skill development:
FCE Certification: Students are encouraged to achieve the FCE (First Certificate in English) certification within their first year.
CAE Certification: The School supports students in pursuing the CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) certification by their fourth year.
Foreign Language Courses: Students can choose to enrol in additional foreign language courses (minimum 40 hours) to enhance their language proficiency.
ECDL Certification: The ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) certification syllabus equips students with essential IT skills, typically achievable within the third year.
